Who We Are

Goldstar Services

Over 25 years of Experience.

Goldstar Services staff professionally trained, safety-oriented, service personnel to campus communities to help safeguard students, staff, visitors, and their physical and reputational assets, using lifestyle-based community safety practices.

We help campus communities provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for their students, staff, and visitors to study, learn, explore, and express themselves, without a heavy security presence.

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT: Lifestyle-based community safety (LSB)

Unlike traditional philosophies of community safety, where security personnel enforce rules and regulations, we utilize lifestyle-based community safety (LSB) practices. Our lifestyle-based approach to community safety utilizes non-punitive, relational, collaborative methods to create and maintain safe communities and protect community members. First, we learn how each community we serve achieves personal and professional harmony in their unique environment. Next, we partner with administrative stakeholders to formulate a lifestyle-based risk continuum to mitigate potentially hazardous activities. Then, when observed behaviors escalate toward hazards our Safety Ambassadors remind community members of the potentially associated harm. Finally, if behaviors create personal harm our CSAs defend and protect community members by creating protective safety zones (PSZ).

Our Services

Unlike traditional deployments modes for staffing security personnel, we utilize our tested “Serve, Advise and Protect” (S.A.P.) deployment model. In this model our CSAs become co-partners with the campuses Departmental Deans and Residents Assistants. Their activities align with the campus administrative processes. Our CSAs focus on supporting the community’s lifestyle goals and limiting harm. We protect community members by proactively identify potentially unsafe conditions and behaviors, advising individuals of the associated harms and consequences, and if needed, create protective safety zones, and direct the appropriate resources to mitigate the unique type of community harm.

I. SERVICE

Our CSAs are trained to serve our communities. We serve our campus stakeholders by improving livability and community safety, giving students and staff the freedom to live and learn, free of harsh security measures. Our Community Safety Ambassadors are embedded within the community, continually seeking unique ways to connect with community members and develop mutually beneficial relationships. We provide in-person responses to non-violent emergencies, safety escorts, and offer helpful guidance to community members and visitors about campus information, directional information, parking, or other community partnership needs.

II. ADVISEMENT

Our CSAs are trained in relational communication and are experts at defusing simple interpersonal conflict and keeping conflict from escalating. We protect community members by proactively identifying unsafe conditions and behaviors and advising the involved individuals of the harm and associated consequences for failing to correct them. Our CSAs are trained to differentiate between unaffiliated individuals and community members and apply the corresponding corrective processes for protecting community members and maintaining safe campus communities.

III. PROTECTION

Our CSAs are trained in personal protective measures. They are experts at knowing how and when to intervene and which partner stakeholder to involve who has the requisite training, authority, and expertise to solve the unique conflicted interaction. We protect campus community members by de-escalating potentially unsafe behaviors and if harm escalates, we intervene, removing individuals from harm, by creating protective safety zones and aligning the specific harm type with the most appropriate organizational resource.

CO-PARTNER SAFETY FOCUSED PARTNERS

Creating safe campuses involves harnessing the efforts of all safety-minded stakeholders and directing their unique expertise, training, and authority to specific harmful environments. Most organizations will need to utilize various safety, security, and law enforcement resources at times to maintain community safety. Although there is some strategic security/law enforcement overlap with safety, involving a resource that’s outside of their specific area of expertise to unique harmful incidents, often escalates unsafe behaviors and outcomes.

Our Community Safety Ambassadors (CSA) know how to integrate their safety expertise with their community’s co-safety partners. They don’t mimic security or law enforcement personnel behaviors; they function more like safety experts disguised as customer service personnel. Since our CSAs are experts at proactively identifying unsafe conditions and behaviors and de-escalating them, there is rarely a need to involve security or law enforcement personnel..

Practices

We help campus communities provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for their students, staff, and visitors to study, learn, explore, and express themselves, without a heavy security presence.

Protective safety zones are a key to creating a safe campus community and protecting community members from harm. If unsafe behaviors escalate to violence our CSAs respond and create protective safety zones by removing impacted individuals from dangerous behaviors and conditions and provide personal protection until additional protective resources arrive to support impacted students, staff or visitors.
Our Community Safety Ambassadors (CSA), are professionally trained, certified, and supervised to meet our communities’ expectations. Our personnel are trained in customer service, verbal de-escalation, critical decision making, personal protective measures and can provide basic medical care.
